Living in Coral Gables

A planned city from the 1920s

George Merrick planned Coral Gables in the 1920s, and the city still protects that look: coral-rock walls, barrel-tile roofs, plazas and fountains. Banyans and oaks shade many of its streets.

Shops and restaurants line Miracle Mile and Giralda Plaza, a short walk or trolley ride from many homes downtown. The Biltmore Hotel, Venetian Pool and Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden are local landmarks, and the University of Miami campus sits on the south side.

Good to know: Coral Gables has its own architectural review and historic-district rules. If you plan exterior changes, ask the city what approvals the specific house would need before you make an offer.

What this page covers: Numbers and listings cover homes with a Coral Gables address in the MLS, which can include a few nearby unincorporated streets.
